How You Can Make an Impact

Joining YCFD is a great way to support the local community or even prepare for a paid career in emergency services. We are looking for people from varied backgrounds. If you ever thought about becoming a firefighter or just helping in the community, now is your chance to make it happen.

Being a Volunteer with YCFD means that you will assist in responding to a variety of incidents and be on call for the Fire Department when they need extra hands. These roles are very important to our organization so if you have an interest in helping us out in emergency situations and making a difference in your community, we encourage you to apply! YCFD provides compensation to Volunteers for the time they put in.

YCFD accepts several different application types:

Volunteer Firefighter (Paid-On-Call):

Interested in becoming an operational firefighter for YCFD? Responding to a variety of emergency response calls, YCFD Volunteer Firefighters respond to a variety of incidents including vehicle incidents, structure fires, rescues, and more. There is also a thorough and intensive training program that cover a wide range of skills and certifications that are needed for YCFD emergency response.

Volunteer Special Operations (Paid-On-Call):

Not looking to participate as an operational firefighter? Special Operations is any operation that is not in the normal firefighter membership job description. This can range from Incident Support Unit Operator to Logistics Support,
Special Operations Group is made up of paid on-call members who would like to provide support to the organization with specialized skills. These members can be from the general firefighter membership, but being a general firefighter is not required. Many specialty courses and skills are required to be maintained to keep up with the training and skill set, all which are provided to the members free of charge. No previous experience is required.

These members are paid on-call only for the hours spent training, during a fire response call in which special operations is needed, or during a special operations event in which special operations members are required. Contact 780-723-4800 for more information.

Cadet Program (Ages 15-17)

The YCFD Cadet Program is for youth to learn about Yellowhead County Fire Department while developing life skills needed to become a firefighter within YCFD.
The program’s mission is to enable cadets to better understand the firefighting career through an experience that balances both classroom and hands-on learning. The program offers controlled, hands-on learning experiences.
