Yellowhead County and the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division have provided funding for the creation of signage to mark the county’s historical one room schoolhouse sites to preserve and honour the memory of these sites as many of the schools were built over 100 years ago and are no longer standing.
Yellowhead County initiated the Country Schools Commemorative Signage Program and is partnering with Grande Yellowhead Public School Division No. 77 (GYPSD) as the country schools have been amalgamated into what is now GYPSD.
Over a dozen successful applications have been received so far and all include stories, historical dates, and anecdotes about the schools.
Please contact the County office for information on applying for the County School Plaque Program.
