Excessive Moisture Conditions in Crops

Many crops around Yellowhead County have not yet been harvested due to excessive moisture and snow conditions.

For this reason, producers are asking recreational users and hunters to be aware that driving over unharvested crops will hamper harvesting efforts and cause undue grief. Driving over sensitive crops like canola will cause shelling losses and driving on cereals will make it difficult to combine harvest.

Agricultural Services is also reminding producers that with wet field conditions, stored grain should be monitored more frequently. We also ask that producers get a nutritional test done in grain and or forage crops damaged by the wet weather. Feed can vary greatly in nutritional value. If there are signs of mold, bacteria, or fungus growth, further tests are likely needed.

Information on Feed & Grain Testing labs can be found on the Alberta Agriculture website at www.agric.gov.ab.ca.
